
Senator Caroline Benoit was born and raised in Provo, Utah as the daughter of a former United States Senator of Utah and retired social worker. After graduating high school, Benoit left Utah to attend University of Texas at Austin where she received her Bachelor’s in Social Work from UT Austin's School of Social Work. After college, she moved to Cambridge, Massachusetts to attend Harvard Law School. After earning her Juris Doctor Degree, she moved back to Utah to practice law, working as a child advocacy lawyer. Upon returning to Utah, she moved to Salt Lake City and decided to run for a position on the Salt Lake City Council and this was the beginning of her political career. In her spare time, she worked at a local nonprofit that advocates for children whose parents are unable to care for them and became a well known figure in her community. She served on the Council for 8 years and was positively received by her community and was encouraged to run for Utah State Senate, a position she held for 6 years before choosing to run for United States Senate in 2011. She is currently serving her 2nd term in the United States Senate. She resides in Utah with her husband of 18 years and 2 sons.
